Biography
Mark is living proof that age is never a limitation when unlocking extraordinary creative talents. A “later-in-life” inspired artist, his striking body of work explodes with vivacity, power and, particularly for the work inspired by street art and graffiti, a whole load of fun.
Originally from Wales, Mark is now a long time resident of California. With early training in Architecture, Mark had spent most of his life elsewhere in the world leading the design and development of some of the world’s most luxurious hotels and resorts. No stranger to the world of artistic expression and the pleasure it brings to audiences, he had skirted close to the edge many times when he led teams in sourcing art, sculptures and other creative pieces to complement interiors. More recently in Europe, he was instrumental in developing the world of Karl Lagerfeld into a unique hospitality brand.
Mark’s canvases reflect stories told with unbridled passion. While he had dabbled with different forms of expression, some aspects of his work remain constant. He plays with colors that refuse to comply to structure or convention, and forms that flow free and yet remain in tandem. A canvas is only finished when the physical form is completely in the image of the artist’s vision.
Mark’s contemporary creations are available directly from the artist’s studio, or through selected studios in Hong Kong and Asia Pacific. For commissioned work, Mark works with clients to create bespoke samples and, for certain types of assignments, Mark will work in virtual reality to align on creative vision as part of the process.
As Mark is an evolving artist who is still exploding from his “later-in-life” unbottling, follow his Instagram and watch this space for more exciting pieces.
From the Artist
I am a self-taught artist, whimsically fighting the architectural obsession with symmetry. I make what some others might consider chaos into art that pleases and intrigues. I am inspired by what has past, what is now, and what might be in the future. I move between Western and Eastern influences, whilst exploring and combining techniques from street art and graffiti to blended color abstracts.
My work gives me the most pleasure when I am immersed in nothing more than what I see in front of me, when I do not ask nor answer the questions “What is it?” and “Is it finished?”. In those moments, I am no more than what I see, no more than what I am doing. In being so, I am in flow and I am complete.
